If you're like many, you don't eat a lot of salt or processed food or fish or seaweed -- all good sources of iodine. I read The Heart Scan Blog http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/ where cardiologist Davis discusses it (amongst other heart related topics) and what happens to your lipids as TSH rises...interesting reading. After reading lots and watching my TSH rise to 5.5 (I've been complaining that my thyroid's wonky again since last fall, so docs ever listen?), I started taking Iodoral about 6 wks ago; at the same time, my primary finally put me on levothyroxine which I have to fail before he'll put on me on Armour *sigh*. Worth reading about and seeing if it might apply.

You know, I actually incorporate quite a bit of fish and seaweed into my diet! Does sea salt contain iodine?

Normally, I'll post on my thread here when I have "bad" nights, but I have to share my great sleep experience last night Carbonman-style.

I hit the pillow and was out fairly quickly
Didn't toss and turn much at all
LOTs of very vivid dreaming going on
Expected to see higher numbers -- deep sleep and dreaming

This is what I saw:

Pressure: 14.6
AHI: 0.8
AI: 0.1
HI: 0.7

I think that might be one of the lowest, if not THE lowest, numbers I've ever had... AND I got good sleep! In the past, I've had low numbers, but restless sleep. Makes sense: you usually can't have obstructive apneas if you're not asleep! For all you newbies out there, I invite you to read through this incredibly long-winded thread if you have the time or interest. My numbers used to be TERRIBLE at the beginning, as were my leaks (the PAPCap fixed that for me, YMMV).

One question: with my new Swift FX mask, I rarely get zero leaks any more, but the leaks I do get are near zero (0.02-0.06 L/s). That's nothing to be concerned about is it?

Great numbers Kenny. Looks like you could cancel your follow up appointment and save yourself some $$$

One follow-up per year is covered under my insurance, so I won't even have a copay. Why not?

If you have a good sleep doc it may be worth it to go over your charts and talk about issues. But i know my doc, he will print out my summary like he did at 6 months and even if my AHI average is 15-20 he will say "you are doing fine" and please stop my DME on the way out for new supplies. He will then charge the insurance $150 for the visit.

My company is self insured meaning blue cross just administer the plan, its my company that assumes the risks and pays the claims. So i get the added benefit of keeping my claims down and so helping keep the cost of my insurance lower for myself and my co-workers.

I would prefer to say thank you many times over for the help i have received on this forum, but to my sleep doc naaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh :D

I'd be interested to hear what your doc has to say.

Bob,

My sleep doc is pretty good. Not the best, but he is definitely interested in my data. Just waiting to get my authorization right now from my primary.

Glad to be of help!

He's not the most attentive, but he's a CPAPer himself, so I guess he's more interested than others.

Our boy is due on or around July 4th!
